About The Artist
Steve Pautz has been capturing the world through the all seeing eye of a camera lens since he was five years old and was given his first 110 camera for Christmas. When Steve entered his teenage years he was given a Pentax K1000. Taught by his father, an avid amateur photographer since the days of Box and Brownie cameras, Steve learned the tools of the trade. "The rule of thirds", proper exposure, and the use of simple but effective light meters. Steve was taught the principles that proper composition and exposure are the most important factors in photography. After taking several photography classes in high school, where Steve learned about film processing; print making; and darkroom technique; Steve went on to work for the school newspaper, the yearbook committee and even taught photography classes to other high school students. Since that time, Steve has moved to the use of Digital Photography to progress his art.
Degreed in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, Steve has traveled the world, courtesy of his fathers service in the military, photographing landscapes; nature; people; and architecture. A lifetime growing up in Europe has given Steve an eye for the most cherished things in life, our memories and our history.
A currently practicing Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), Steve takes an engineers approach to photography. Every detail must be studied, analyzed, and found to be necessary for a shot. This is evidenced by Steve's use of natural light for almost 99% of all pictures taken. Natural light brings out the reality that is the moment, without introducing harsh light and color to the scene. Steve has turned his focus to wedding, architectural, sports and nature photography.
Steve is a long time Round Rock resident who is active and part of the overall development of the community. Steve and his wife Stephanie spend their time taking care of a 15-year old daughter and a 2 year old son as well as three very needy cats.
Steve travels often to Michigan and Wisconsin, where many of his extended family reside, to enjoy the change in the seasons, and to partake of the great outdoors that is the Great White North.
Many of his clients are by "word of mouth" referral and he feels strongly that quality of service is the means to a productive and successful photo shoot. Steve has designed several photo packages to fit all budgets and desires. However, Steve believes in developing a scope of services specifically for each client, so that the client gets exactly the memories they were hoping for. Consultations are free and are encouraged for those that want to take an active role in developing their own very special set of memories.
